Our current dig is taking place at Lowes Tenement (  see map below ), situated at the side of Park Farm Shop, Walmersley, Bury

Excavations started in 2015 with the aim of discovering whether a later farmstead was actually built on the site of a much earlier medieval building complex. These excavations revealed a mass of complex archaeology but did reveal some nice cobble features and evidence of large stone foundations. Pottery sherds found dated from the later 19th century building back to the 14th century with some nice medieval pottery sherds. Our excavations in 2017 will extend the area in the search for more evidence of early activity on this fascinating site.

Our 2017 dig season will start on Wednesday 12th April. Our dig day is Wednesday from 10am to 3.30pm.

All members are more than welcome to come along and take part in the excavations and no prior experience is needed as training will be given on site. All you need is a stout pair of boots, all other equipment is already on site.
